I’ve been getting some really nice compliments lately. Compliments that I speak like a South African! I’ve been working really hard on my lingo and my pronunciation. I guess it’s all due to the fact that I don’t live with 14 Americans anymore.
 
Get on – get along; She
and I get on quite well.

Pitch up – show up; She
never pitched up for lunch.

Naught – zero; Number
your paper from naught to ten.

So long (pronounced as one word) – in the meantime; Just sit down so long.

Canning oneself – laughing hysterically; After he saw what happened, he was canning
himself.

Fetch – pick up; Can
someone come and fetch me?

Arb (Short for arbitrary; pronounced, obb) – weird, odd,
random; It was a very arb night.

Dof – feeling stupid or silly; I feel so dof sometimes.

Oakes – guys, people; What
is that oake’s name?

Diary – personal calendar; I’ll mark your birthday in my diary.

Busy – in the middle of something; I was busy driving when he called.

Fringe – bangs; I need
my fringe trimmed.

Purse – women’s wallet; Handbag – purse; wallet – only
belonging to men

Keen – eager, excited; I’m
keen to get more involved.

Heartsore – when your heart aches for someone; It’s so heartsore that we aren’t friends
anymore.

Passage – hallway; The
bathroom is just down the passage to the right.
