Living in Africa is quite fun, but has its differences. Here are just a few to help you understand...

You greet everyone on the street

You get to dance like crazy in church

Ice cream is made with full cream (whole) milk. Thus, twice the creaminess, and twice the taste
Milk comes in a carton that sits on the shelf

A cheese and tomato sandwich is becoming the norm

You get to measure everything in kilos, kilometers, Celsius, and meters

Laundry costs an average of $6-$7 a load, make-up is about $10 or more for anything

African time, 7:00 actually means 7:30 or 8

You can say fun things like: "the guys", which refers to everyone

"Is it?" is the response to every statement, which means "Is that correct?"

Instead of "You're welcome" you can say "Pleasure" and with a SA accent it's more like "Pleasha"

You can honour the Saviour in your favourite coloured theatre with your good behaviour

You eat starch and bread at every meal

Everything is opposite! The toilet handle is on the other side, you drive on the other side of the road, and you drive on the other side of the car!

That's all I can think of for now. OH! and I wanted you to see what happened to us on the way back from Somerset last week. Our whole wheel popped off of the van...just popped off and went bouncing down the freeway. I think the lug nuts came unscrewed or something. Crazy right?
