I don’t have a whole lot to say, except that life in Port Elizabeth so far has been a blessing. We’ve met a number of our neighbors, lots of people at our new church, and the youth group kids have been awesome. Everyone has really taken us in and made sure that we are getting settled nicely. We were invited to a braai earlier this week, swam in our neighbor’s pool, and even had new friends over for games. We really don’t live like typical missionaries. We’re pretty much spoiled. You’d probably be surprised if you spent a day with us.
There are many opportunities for ministry in our city and we have begun to check them out this week. We have visited children’s homes, orphanages, and shelters all with similar needs and visions. I’m not sure where I’ll end up yet, so you can begin praying for me that the Lord will reveal His will for me. I’m a little scared that I will burn out quicker this semester due to the level of involvement. I’ll have my normal afternoon ministry five days a week, “intentional” (out of the box) ministry one day a week, team ministry project one day a week, plus youth group one or two days a week. I’m really looking forward to giving away everything I have and leaving with no regrets.
I’m really finding PE to be my home. There is something about this place that just fits. I don’t think I’ll have any trouble finding a reason to come back. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but South Africa just makes sense. PE definitely has its issues. There are drinking problems, drug deals, lusting after wealth, and racism, which may be the biggest problem of them all.
Love. It was God’s idea first.
