So, I picked up Pricilla on Thursday! When I first looked at her
and test drove her, she was much more pimped out. She used to have all tinted
windows, like limo style, but they were illegal, so the dealer had to strip the
tinting. She also had a spoiler piece on the front bumper which the dealer
removed for me. I think he was scared I would rip it off while going over speed
bumps. When I first looked at the car it didn’t really fit me, but it was
definitely the best buy for the money. I started calling her Pricilla because I
decided that she was Mexican, don’t ask me why, but I just got that vibe.

I really thought it might be a while before I could pick up
the car. It’s been an interesting week trying to get everything sorted out. I
found the car on Sunday, and went to sign the paperwork Monday evening. Because
I have never owned a car in South
Africa before, I had to go and register my
name at the DMV because I’m not in the system. So, before the car could be put
in my name, I had to register myself. But, before I could register myself, I
had to get a proof of address. So, my housemate had to fill out an affidavit
and get it stamped by the police station. I thought that was all I needed, but
it turns out I need also two ID photos for the DMV to keep on file. So, the
process continued. Finally, I made it to the DMV yesterday (in actuality it is
just one separate window at the post office). When I got there, they were
closed because of a municipality strike! And strikes typically last for 2
weeks! So, it appeared the waiting continued. Oh! And before this, on Monday
night, when my mom was trying to transfer the money, there was a special number
that I had forgotten to get from the dealer. So, they had to wait until Tuesday
morning for the bank to open so they could get the number. So, again, I thought
the money might not transfer before Friday. I kept wondering why everything was
going wrong. But anyway, the good news is that we stopped by the dealer on the
way home yesterday and they said I could still have the car when the money
comes through even though there is a strike.

So here it is, God has blessed me with a car!
