Our team finally finished our whirlwind tour of the PE ministries and our personal ministries started up. It’s a little crazy trying to get into a new schedule, but things have been good so far. My ministry is a lot different from last semester, but it should be really good. I came into PE really wanting to do house visits again, but the Lord opened up new opportunities for me.

Three days a week I’ll be working at a place called Eastern Province Children’s Home (E.P. for short) helping with homework, organizing clothes, AND (this is really exciting…) doing swimming lessons for little kids!! EP houses 104 displaced or orphaned children and help to develop life skills as well. It is extremely well organized and orchestrated. After the kids get home from school each day, they are involved in programs like modeling, cooking, hairdressing, and computers to help them get jobs after they leave the center.

The other place I’ll be working at two days a week is called Combined Christian Ministries for the Poor (CCMP). This organization is deep in the township of Kwazahkele and looks after toddlers every morning, provides a free meal for school kids, and has kids clubs in the afternoons. One unique thing about CCMP is that one of the directors is a white South African. It’s rare to see a white South African taking action in the black community.

Firehouse and the youth kids are awesome! I like it a lot. Wednesday was the first life group of the year. I will be going to the 10-12 graders life group. They have a real zest for life and an earnest thirst for God. It really is exciting to see them fight for talking time. My gosh, I can’t contain myself, I really love it here!! Oh yeah, and Saturday night at youth is Fear Factor. I’m so nervous because they already told us they are going to make the Americans try all the weird stuff like sheep head and “delicacy” worms.

The rest of my week is really full as I wrote about before. We have all day Friday off, Tuesday night off, and Sunday morning off. Every other morning and evening is booked.

I tried to find websites for my ministries, but the only one that has a website is the church if you are interested: lighthouseministries.co.za

Continue to pray for my team, unity is a really important issue right now. And always pray for our safety as well in this big city.

Here is a random fact I just learned about 5 seconds ago. I was searching for a picture to post on my blog and I learned that Port Elizabeth has a population of 1.5 million. Even still, we see people we know from the neighbor, church, our ministries quite often when we go out. It really doesn’t feel like 1.5 million!
